LibuShe – Institute for Women in Governance

Women belong where decisions are made.

LibuShe is an institute supporting women across all levels of politics and public administration. We provide mentoring, education, know‑how and a strong community for women who want to enter public life or succeed in leadership and decision‑making roles.

Our mission

Equal representation is not a gift. It is a right.

Women make up more than half of the Czech population, yet remain significantly underrepresented in elected office and public administration. LibuShe exists to change that — practically, directly, and without waiting for the system to fix itself.

We work with women across the political spectrum. Partisan affiliation does not matter. The will to participate does.

What we do

Six areas of work

Candidacy Support

From the first idea to election day — strategy, campaign preparation, and practical tools for women considering running for office.

Mentoring

One-on-one sessions with experienced politicians and public officials. Tailored to your situation, your goals, your pace.

Training & Workshops

Media skills, public speaking, managing online hostility, coalition-building. For individuals and teams.

Community

A network of women in Czech politics and public administration. Peer support, shared experience, and solidarity.

Research & Advocacy

We document barriers women face in Czech public life and advocate for systemic change — in parties, institutions, and online spaces.

Anti-Hate Speech

Online harassment is real. We prepare women for it, support them through it, and fight for better regulation.

The numbers

Libuše — legendary Czech ruler

LibuShe takes its name from Libuše — the legendary Czech ruler who, according to myth, governed with wisdom, foresight, and empathy. Her authority, however, was challenged by male nobles who questioned a woman's right to rule.

For the LibuShe Institute, this story is both a spot‑on metaphor for today and a call to action. It reflects the long‑standing tension between women's competence and the social resistance they face when assuming responsibility and leadership in public life — and it reminds us that women's authority has always been present, even when contested.
